CNR is analyzing the insect Philaenus spumarius

The LIFE Resilience project is in its implementation stage. Currently the different researchers and technicians of the project are making entomological observations of the main vector of the Xylella Fastidiosa, the Philaenus spumarius.

Philaenus spumarius is the insect that causes the transmission of the bacterium Xylella fastidiosa in intensive olive and almond tree plantations in Europe. Therefore, we are continuously investigating how fast the bacterium is transmitted or acquired and what the insect has to do to transmit it.

In early April, Dr. Claudio Cantini, researcher of the National Research Council of Italy (CNR), visited this insect in its growth spurt in an olive grove located in central Italy, in Pisa and Grosseto.
