Italy invests in researching varieties resistant to Xylella

As Olimerca reports, research is key to confront and stop the advance of Xylella fastidiosa, and for this reason the research body of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Italian Government has announced a research grant with 56,487.20 euros in which, for 35 months , will address «Selection of olive varieties for resistance / tolerance to Xylella fastidiosa«.

According to the deputy Paolo Parentela, «in addition to Leccino and Fabulous, we must necessarily find new cultivars capable of increasing biodiversity so as not to completely abandon olive cultivation in areas affected by the bacteria», publishes Teatro Naturale.

The deadline for submitting applications to apply for this scholarship will remain open until October 18.
