«In this third edition of the conference, organized in on-line format, jointly by IRTA, the University of Lleida and the Department of Agriculture, we wanted to focus on showing the most recent scientific-technical advances in the use of remote sensing in agriculture ”, points out Joaquim Bellvert, researcher of the Efficient Use of Water program at IRTA.
In it, topics related to the 2D and 3D characterization of fruit plantations, techniques to improve the fertilization of crops, the detection of weeds and symptoms caused by one of the most serious diseases that threaten almond trees will be discussed as is the case with Xylella fastidiosa.
Thanks to the availability of new geospatial and information technologies, there have been many advances in agriculture that allow precision management of agricultural operations to be realized, optimizing the use of various inputs (fertilizers, phytosanitary, water).
Remote sensing is presented as a useful tool that provides spatial and temporal information on our farms, and that can be used to carry out more efficient management. However, it is important to be aware of its limitations and, at the same time, of many uncertainties that we can currently find in the adaptation of these technologies to the agricultural sector.
The seminar will also present the most innovative advances in the use of satellite and aerial images to determine the water consumption of crops and, based on them, to be able to identify the varieties / rootstocks that are most tolerant of water scarcity.
